First Things First

blockbuster-blueprint-ebook-smGreetings! I just want to take a moment to introduce myself and my website.

I’m M. L. Welker. I’m a writer and independent publisher. My first book, “Blockbuster Blueprint,” is out now and available on Amazon, Kobo, iBooks, and (soon) Barnes & Noble.

The origin of that book started with a fascination I’ve had with storytelling since I was a little kid. I loved movies and books (especially Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Goosebumps). Then when Jurassic Park came out, everything changed for me. Both the book and the movie captured my imagination profoundly. I knew from then on exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to do for others what Crichton and Spielberg had done for me: used the craft of storytelling to transport me into a world where dinosaurs were real. Well, almost real. That was magic. And I was hooked.

Long story short, from then on I wrote a lot of stories and made a lot of home movies as a child, and I eventually decided to become a writer. Even though I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, I’ve only just started my career as a professional writer.

“Blockbuster Blueprint” is the first book of many. It marks the completion of the first phase in a decades long-plan I have to write a whole hell of a lot of books. To do that, I knew I was going to need a strong foundation in “storycraft.” I had read books on story structure in the past, but they just didn’t quite resonate with me. I needed a story structure book all my own. And that’s what “Blockbuster Blueprint” became: my own unique spin on the age-old story structure model.

And I’m already putting it into action with my next book: my first novel, which I’ll talk about in a future post.

But what’s handy about “Blockbuster Blueprint” is that it’s not just for me. If you’re a writer, you can use it, too. It started out as a collection of notes for my own personal use, but I decided I should share it with the world. I re-packaged those notes into a book. And now anybody can use it.

Before I go, the last thing I wanted to mention was what you can expect from this website. It’s primary function will be as a platform for me to communicate with readers and fellow writers. I’ll be using this space to answer your questions, talk about what I’m working on, and share a lot of (hopefully) interesting and helpful content about the crafts of writing and storytelling.

That’s all for now! Stay tuned for more . . .

In the mean time, if you’re interested in learning more about my book, you can find it at your preferred ebook retailer. Here are a few:
